Just a taste of some of the books I will be bringing to the Bath Book Fair.

THE BASINGSTOKE "SALVATION ARMY RIOTS"

The manuscript transactions of the Basingstoke Petty Sessions during a fascinating period in the history of this town. The arrival of the Salvation Army was thought to be a threat to their livelihood by many employees of the local brewing industry. This culminated in a number of disturbances, particularly during Salvation Army parades, leading to attempts by the authorities to ban such marches.
This book records a number of cases of assault in connection with the disturbances as well as more mundane matters such as: Vagrancy, Theft, Drunkeness, Arson, Playing Football on the Highway, Speeding (at more than 5mph!).
Folio leather binding, generally in very good condition, with labels and containing 410pp in a moderately readable script. £250.00

Picturesque Bath
with Sketches and Short History by Caroline M K Stothert

A large folio book of sketches of Bath, published in 1881,
by Henry Sotheran and containing a brief history
of the city written by the illustrator.

This is an ex-Library copy, with minimal markings as such,
which has been rebacked in the past and is lacking 3 of the 20 plates called for.
£80.00

Trowbridge Roll of Honour

A comprehensive guide, of 300pp, to the men and women from this Wiltshire Market town who served in the Great War.

The book contains lists, with some photographs, of soldiers who were killed together with a street by street guide to all Trowbridge combatants and a line about their war history.

The book also contains a 26pp history of the affects of the war on Trowbridge and comes complete with a 6pp supplement of names received too late for classification.

Bound in khaki coloured card wraps, this copy has been skillfully rebacked and has a little water staining to the fore-edge of the first 10pp, but this does not affect the text. Two pages have had closed tears repaired with acid free tissue paper. Not dated but c.1920.           £45.00
